Are Line Dances a Thing of the Past?

Whether you love them or leave them, there’s no denying that line dances have created countless unforgettable wedding moments over the years. "Cheesy songs" like the "Cha Cha Slide" and "Macarena" have had entire dance floors moving in sync, while more energetic songs like "Cotton Eye Joe" and "Danza Kuduro" bring a party vibe to any celebration. And let’s not forget "Rock the Boat", a wedding favourite that gets guests sitting, swaying, and singing along! While these songs may not be as popular with today’s couples, they still hold a special place in wedding history. Some guests will always love the nostalgia and fun they bring, while others prefer a fresh, modern soundtrack for their big day. No matter what side you’re on, one thing is certain every wedding playlist should be a reflection of the couple’s style...

While line dances have been a wedding staple for decades, our recent experience over the past few years suggests that they might be losing their appeal. Many couples today, especially those born in the 1990s are leaning toward more contemporary dance music, with a strong preference for UK and American house music.

In fact, we’ve noticed that line dances are increasingly finding their way onto the "Do Not Play" list! Instead of traditional group dances, many couples now want a seamless, high energy mix of house, dance, and electronic tracks to keep the party going. While line dances still have their place at some weddings, it’s clear that musical tastes are evolving, and modern wedding playlists are shifting toward more dynamic, club style vibes.

So, are line dances a thing of the past? For some, yes. But for others, they’ll always be a fun, nostalgic way to get everyone moving. The key is knowing your crowd and choosing what works best for your wedding!
